ABOUT US

Established in March 2019, the White Horse Classic Vehicle Enthusiasts evolved out of the Vale of White Horse Triumph TR club. A decision was made and supported by the bulk of the former club's active members to form a new club with an interest in all classic vehicles.

Given the history of our club, we continue to encourage Triumph motor car owners to join us. However, we feel that by expanding the diversity of the classic vehicles within the club we give members a more interesting experience. As well as Triumph, our club cars now include: Alfa Romeo, Caterham, Daimler, Datsun, Ford, Fiat, Gilbern, Jaguar, Jeep, Land Rover, Lotus, Mazda, MG, Mini, Morgan, Reliant, Renault, Rover, Saab, Volvo and VW.

Members come from a variety of backgrounds, but all share a passion for classic vehicles, whether it be cars, motorcycles, aircraft, tractors, traction engine, or locomotive. This common passion transcends age and background and often forms the foundation of strong and lasting friendships. It is the members that make our club, with the sharing of their knowledge, experience, skills, and support.

We meet regularly for club nights, classic vehicle shows, and run outs. These gatherings are typically informal and characterised by lots of friendly banter, and a bit of tyre kicking. As well as discussing the vehicles and any issues with them, there is a social element to our get togethers. Most of our activities take place in and around the central counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, and Wiltshire.

Many of the founder members had negative experiences of national, single-marque car clubs and wanted to create a club that was more relaxed and based around friendships. As we organise events and show our vehicles together under the club banner, we felt it important to have club insurance cover to protect our membership. We fill a niche between those car clubs that operate as a business (or support a business) and the informal type gatherings that are often seen these days. Our aim is to offer the best of both worlds. And as we are truly independent, we make our own rules ... led by members for the members.  After our fixed insurance, IT and promotional costs, we use surplus funds to support a wide range of chairities and to subsidize our members when they participate in a club organised event.

A word about the word "classic". We are often asked what we mean by "classic" and in reply we have to admit that it is a difficult word to define in this context. For some people, for a vehicle to be a classic it has to be of a certain age, typically over 20 years, but we do not stick rigidly to such definitions. We prefer to talk in terms of "vehicles of interest". Of course, even that is a subjective term, but there is general agreement within the club that apart from age, attributes of rarity, performance, and uniqueness all play a part in making a classic vehicle.

If you own a classic vehicle or what might be considered a vehicle of interest, share our ethos, and want to get involved, then please consider joining us. Our membership is currently open to joining applications, but we are keen to keep the friendly spirit of the club, and are cautious about letting it grow too fast. Therefore, we will at times cap the membership numbers, and place applicants on a waiting list.
